Brown – capped Indian Pygmy Wood pecker

When I saw this bird first, I thought its a barbet, as it is small in size, until I googled to find details about it. It was found on a tree in the garden, perched not much away from ground level. I was amazed to find a pygmy wood pecker. I painted this picture using watercolor.

It has white striations on its back, a small red patch on its crown, greyish beak, and brown head.

      1. Yes, I just sent you a link in case it goes to your SPAM filter. The Downies are very cute, but there are the Hairy Woodpeckers which also look like your watercolor and their markings are almost identical. I see Downy Woodpeckers more often here – always a treat to see them.

          5. I’m not sure how clear they are as I caught that woodpecker on the fly, however, there is only one woodpecker at this park where I walk daily. I don’t always see him, but here he is, this Red-Bellied Woodpecker back in the Winter – you have to scroll down a little, but the sky was this brilliant blue and the woodpecker was sitting on a piece of dead tree and you can see all the holes that he has drilled into the tree – pretty incredible.           6. Thank you Linda, I viewed the post,and found I had liked this post earlier. Now I have posted my comments. Such wonderful bird pictures, so vivid and I enjoyed reading about them. The wood pecker has indeed done lots of drilling there😁, they are very cute!

          7. Sorry Bindya – I usually look to see if someone liked or commented before on the post. I heard the woodpeckers in the neighborhoods too sometimes – they like drilling into the wooden utility poles and also trees and when it is quiet in the morning, they are doing their thing. 🙂

          4. Thank you so much Linda! I enjoyed watching all videos there, and yes the hairy woodpecker clinging on to peanut feeder was one of them . It’s amazing they love peanuts too 😊

          5. The woodpecker I saw last week flew down to the path at the Park as he saw whole peanuts there – made me laugh as he was so quick. This morning there were two peanuts and the blue jay picked up both of them to see which was the better choice. He went with peanut #2. Unlike the squirrels, he can’t take two peanuts “to go”. 🙂
